Born and raised in Oklahoma, Dr. Smithson did his undergraduate work at the University of Mississippi, then graduated from medical school at the University of Oklahoma. He did his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa and became board certified. He later did a Sports Medicine fellowship in Birmingham at the Alabama Sports Medicine Institute and became board certified in Sports Medicine as well. Using his sports medicine background, he was a team physician for the Auburn University athletic department and cared for student athletes.

Dr Smithson later worked as a civilian contractor for the United States Navy in Norfolk, Virginia. For his work with the Navy, he was given the title of an Honorary Ensign by the naval officers he worked with.

Moving into Integrative Medicine 15 years ago, Dr. Smithson worked in the Bioidentical Hormone field for several years. He later transitioned into the Stem Cell field, treating and regenerating patients with stem cells, exosomes, platelet-rich plasma, and ozone. His Integrative career continued by working in the Energy Medicine field with Dr. Jerry Tennant at the Tennant Institute in Texas. It was here that Dr. Smithson learned the incredible importance of the flow of energy throughout the body, and how an interrupted flow can lead to chronic disease.

Before moving to Arizona to work with Brio-Medical, Dr. Smithson was medical director of the Kotsanis Institute in Grapevine, Texas, where he treated many cancer patients with numerous Integrative therapies.

He currently is board certified in both Internal Medicine as well as Sports Medicine.

In his spare time, Dr. Smithson enjoys spending time with his two sons. He stays active with golf, weight training and running an occasional 1/2 marathon.
